The democratization of spirituality

We had a dialogue last week with the Gurdjieff group in Cambridge, MA with some 7 or 8 likeminded friends when I was sharing the somewhat depressing view of the Bhagavad Gita that 1 in 10 000 look for truth and only one in 10 000 of the truth seekers find it. A woman next to me said that she had stopped looking for the truth. Not knowing exactly what she wanted to express with that statement I ventured the conjecture that maybe we experience the democratization of spirituality. In the past there was a king and a Buddha with countless of commoners looking up to them, whereas today we are all spiritual equals, called to love, serenity and action. Maybe truth was at that moment when goodwill gathered around the table. Just as the New Testament states, wherever two or more are gathered in my name, there I am among them. Truth does not belong to an individual. We are That!
