A snake lets go of its old skin and grows a new one. In a sense we advertise the same thing for spiritual travelers. There are so many interferences, desires and suppressed fears operating below the surface but we mostly aren't aware of them. We block them out, repress them and build a persona around it to protect our nakedness from everyone's - our own included - sight.
What is left when you let go of your armor? Well, you have to see for yourself. The existentialism philosophy claims there is nothing but a frightened mouse left at risk of being squashed by the vastness of the universe. The spiritual traveler claims that a magic world opens up instead. I don't really understand why we need to have an intellectual discussion on the subject, just look for yourself and see what is left when you stand there naked. The one qualifier though, you have to be willing to drop your armor; so you do have to stand up to the fear of being naked. Try it - I have a hunch though that you will like what you see.
The spiritual traveler has not come to destroy but to build. Who cares why exactly you aspire to be as you are. Who cares in the end why you are driven to build something. All we are saying is to put the "I" into the service of love and you will not only feel good about yourself but you will be happy as well. Everyone who has children knows this, but you can introduce your service into every aspect of your being. That way the little rascal - the ego - who wanted to send you on a trip into nowhere is way too busy to complain. Day in, day out the ego gets absorbed by facing life and all its mind-blowing aspects. The Tao will make sure that you have nothing to complain about. Again, don't take our word for it, try it instead and see whether it works for you.
