Expressing who we are

Even by breath-control the mind will subside, but this subsidence will last only so long as the breath remains controlled. When the breath starts out, the mind will also start out and wander externally, driven by the vasanas (inherent tendencies).
Ramana Maharshi

I was born with what the Bhagavad Gita calls a ‘rajastic nature’. I have an inner drive that needs to be expressed otherwise I get destructive. When I fall in love this drive is channeled towards her; when I start a business venture, when I work with people or write, this drive gets channeled into these areas. So what’s the problem, I would ask, God gave us this beautiful planet to express ourselves and all that is required is to marry our talents and passions with spiritual purpose.

By the way, after years of practicing breathing and meditation I also have reached the stage that at command I can shut of thoughts and simply enjoy a firework of serene light and energy glowing through me. It’s pleasant. It likely raises my vibration and is positive for my health, but nothing really changes. When you come back from this pleasure trip you are still left with the same inherent drives that long for expressions. Not that there is anything wrong with that. That’s what the Awakening journey is all about.
