I think that we spiritual path travelers have one advantage over the ordinary folks: it appears that the time span between everything we do and the consequence of our own action is collapsing. Remember the story of the elephant and the driver from yesterday? Well, the problem that we are facing is that the rewards of "good" behaviour are often not visible to us, so our passions have an eye on the cookie jar, i.e. the elephant is in charge with little room for the driver to maneuver. But what if you could always feel immediately the cost of an action? Wouldn't that make it more likely that you do what is in the end best for you?
My hunch is that this is exactly what is going on when we are on a spiritual path. Just based on my experience, the further you venture along your Tao, the higher the energy vibrations of your entire system. The Law of Attraction becomes more and more powerful as all drives inside yourself, your conscious as well as your subconscious ones start lining up. When you do a harmful action you face its consequences immediately as your energy level is dropping. The world that you have built for yourself starts imploding until your energy is returning to you. Is is hard not to do the right thing if that process is in place; wouldn't you agree?
