Socrates was much less scientific (in the modern day sense) than today's scientists would like it to be. He often talked about his inner voice that one can hear from time to time and that makes it worth your while to live for. But then, he also believed that the more you try to understand who you really are, the more likely you will be to hear your inner voice. Intuition is a sudden feeling that for some reason you just know. It develops over time and when it pops up you just know that truth is ringing in your ears. To quote Edie Brickell from her song What I Am: I know what I know if you know what I mean.
There is only one slight problem with the intuition concept. Sometimes you think that you know, but you happen to be dead wrong. My favorite example in this direction are some of the early contestants in the show American Idol. There are some characters who are just convinced that they deserve to face the American public when in fact you take one look at them and you just wonder, what are they thinking? Well, it just appears that when in comes to the feeling to know what you know, you sometimes cannot help concluding, no, I don't know what you mean.
