The Journey Home

Daniel Smith in "Muses, Madmen and Prophets" reminded us that Western's celebrated philosopher who started it all - Socrates - was in fact quite a spiritual man who at times was visited by his personal damaeon who told him things. However, with the Renaissance came the celebration of our sharp mind, and with the 19th century came the rediscovery of psychology as a science of the mind. Our brightest minds kept on analyzing until there was nothing spiritual left - and for those minds who where consistent enough to follow their own analysis there was only one conclusion left: we are nothing but scared little mice always at risk to be squashed by the random universe.

Well, existentialism is so 20th century; today, many of us are willing to admit that we have discovered something outside of the razor-sharp mind and the ego-centered psychology. Some call it intuition, some call it the Source, some call it Holy Ghost, while we call it the Tao. There is a connection with something that from the perspective of the "I" can only be called divine. We have evolved while - at the same time - we have just returned to our roots. Discovering the Tao is really not that hard - it is the holy interaction of people who are in fact one, right in front our astonished eyes. Three thousand years ago we had giants like Socrates, Lao-Tzu, Jesus, Buddha and a few other enlightened folks to tell us about this Force. Today everyone can be part of it - humanity has come full circle.
