Ego versus SPIRIT at Work

You have the right to your actions,
but never to your action’s fruits.
Act for the actions sake,
and do not be attached to inaction.
(Lord Krishna, Bhagavad Gita)

Ego at Work
People are out to get you unless yo have the power to put them into place. Stand up for your rights! Blow your own horn! Form alliances with other powerful people who think and act like you.

SPIRIT at Work
Giving comes before getting. Do your job with the best intentions and let your work speak for itself. You don’t have to ask for anything, just do your work and the rewards will be coming your WAY.

I have managed to fare quite well following the SPIRIT hypothesis at work. Perhaps I was part of a special company with a more caring culture. Perhaps I enjoyed an unique industry that supported the brilliant engineer types without much need for marketing. When the gig was finally over for me personally, it was the ego model that prevailed in the end. Should I change now after having experienced the blessings of the SPIRIT for more than two decades? I don’t think so. Should I advise others to follow the ego at work model? Hardly, the ones who followed it were also not more successful than me, and they surely were a lot more miserable following it.

I use the opportunity to graduate to my new avocation of being a writer and a spiritual coach. It is a natural progression that allows me to enjoy the SPIRIT at work all the time. It is a no-brainer really. Once you have tasted the fruits along the WAY, there is no turning back.
