Sharing the World-wide Symphony

I've been alive forever
and I wrote the very first song.
I put the words and the melodies together
I am music and I write the songs.

My home lies deep within you
and I've got my own place in your soul.
Now, when I look out through your eyes,
I'm young again, even though I'm very old.
(Barry Manilow, I write the Songs)

A train accident happens in India during a religious celebration and the air is heavy in Boston, Massachusetts. I hear my father-in-law mentioning the tragedy on the phone and I suddenly realize what this heaviness is all about. The Germans have a word for this global connectedness, zeitgeist—spirit of our time—that describes the fact that we are One. Have you ever asked yourself why some musicians are popular for a few fears and then fail spectacularly afterwards? It is because their sound and style describes the zeitgeist of the time; the hope, the fear, the frustration, the anticipation or empowerment. Alas, the clock strikes midnight one day and the magic is gone. Kudos to the artists who can capture their audiences over decades and even generations.

Oh my music makes you dance
and gives you spirit to take a chance.
And I wrote some rock 'n' roll so you can move.
Music fills your heart.
Well, that's a real fine place to start.
It's from me it's for you.
It's from you, it's for me.
It's a worldwide symphony.
(Barry Manilow, I write the Songs)

I don’t write music lyrics but I am a spiritual author. You have no idea how often I have a note ready to go and then find a fitting quote shared by a friend just in the nick of time. Sometimes I get inspired by a discussion and when I share this note it magically helps someone who needed to hear this message at that very moment. It is easy for us spiritual folks to feel the zeitgeist of the moment. Let’s just hang out with each other and share the worldwide symphony.
