Being a spiritual traveler is not so different in fact. We also have those days when a friend acts insanely in our presence but in the name of compassion and love we just let him have him a bad day while we absorb his negativity at the moment. Sometimes, however, self-love rules, and we calmly—or not so calmly—assert our position and tell him how we perceive the situation. How do we know when is when? Well, the energy of the moment dictates the outcome. Just like playing ‘spiritual poker’ sometimes you hold, sometimes you fold, sometimes you assert yourself and sometimes you run.
Christian faith, well-intended as it is, has diverted from the Way. Isn’t it true that Yoshua told the money changers in the temple what he thought of them despite all his compassion and kindness? The essence of the moment dictates our response to it. We will always love, all right. Often we feel compassion towards our counterpart, but sometimes we go with self-love instead. Discover for yourself that the Way always stands by to guide us. Some reactions feel natural and positive, while others feel strained and negative but life always gives us an outlet to let go.
There is wisdom in the essence of the moment—live it!
