Recognition and Exclusion

We use the way we think can get us recognition, love, acceptance, being seen. So I figure if I do a lot I will get the recognition I deserve.

This is how the mind thinks. This reflects our thinking pattern. It is limited and narrow.  This is a habit and habitual pattern. We naturally think, if I get A+, I will get love. If I excel at something, I will get recognition and appreciation. This is how the mind creates suffering.

For example, if your kids are accepted at of the Ivy League schools, you will tell your friends and relatives all about it and will celebrate and feel proud. If your kids don’t make it to get into the Ivy League schools, you feel frustrated and powerless, and then you start to worry how they can compete in today’s compete e society and how they can survive in this modern world. Our society and all the people around us all think that this is the way to advance, to be worthy and how one has a hopeful and respectable future.

So in our consciousness, we want to be good so we can achieve what society recognizes. We actually are very scared of being different, and excluded. We all have these areas where we feel vulnerable. If we cannot spot them, we are deeply influenced, and keep pushing ourselves to be better and work harder. Can we have an open mind to observe ourselves and not be simply rebellious so we can escape this influence and be truly free?

If you find Suzhen Liu’s writings helpful, please check out her book, ‘Letting Go—Release Your Suffering’ on Amazon. From personal experience with the Letting Go Method, I can highly recommend this book!
