There are four stages of spirituality, the curiosity, awakening, the “click” and freedom. Naturally, some are born awakened, some even suddenly become free without having gone through any of these stages, but for many of us these stages are a natural evolution.
God only knows why some are curious about spirituality while others couldn’t be bothered. God only knows why some go through the awakening stage when they see this world with new eyes, while others never do. The “click”, however, is something to figure out.
In the “click” stage there is still a little karma to burn, there are still the phases of struggle and elevation, but the perspective is whole already. This world of ups and downs is perceived with open eyes, a loving heart and an equanimous mind. Maya’s curtain has cracks and the light shines through.
Everyone gets to the “click” a little differently. The power of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the eternal eyes of Zen, the stillness of meditation, the Awareness beyond the mind, self-inquiry; everyone has a somewhat unique way of connecting with what lies beyond “me, myself and I”.
I recently encountered the “point of no reference”. I realized that in religion, awareness, mindfulness, inquiry, etc., there is still a reference point; someone who appeals to the holy trinity, someone who is aware of awareness, someone who monitors the mind. Suddenly even that perspective shifted.
The “click” felt like a little earthquake. Have you been in an elevator when you suddenly fall by a few inches before it settles? The ground shifted just like that and got settled into a new frame—the “point of no reference”. The world is perceived with new eyes. Have you heard “the click”?
