On Christian Healing

A friend of mine recounted what a catholic priest told her about brotherly love, "there are some people that you should love from a safe distance." To me this statement sums up the entire conflict of the Christian faith. If you offer one cheek after the other to your opponent, you will end up like Dostoevsky's idiot. Apparently our priest found his way out if the dilemma, identify the evil folks first and send them your Christian blessings from the far.

When I read 'A Course in Miracle' I formed a somewhat different idea. I view the coexistence of our 'rational' world and the spiritual brother- and sisterhood of humanity as a multiple equilibrium outcome. The Christian healer has the choice and either way, your perspective will be proven right. If you view your co-worker as an opponent, your wish will be his command. If, instead, you pick your colleague to be your soul-sister, whose mission it is to lift you up spiritually as well as professionally, she will be at your service too. The choice is entirely up to you! Actually, you can spend your entire life experimenting with these multiple equilibrium outcomes. But please start small as some experience is required and you definitely will have to deal with some interference around this spiritual path as you first have to work off some of your psychological baggage.

I recently read Elizabeth Lloyd Mayer's 'Extraordinary Knowing' who presented a similar idea with the help of Gestalt psychology. You have probably seen similar experiments such as the picture of  a chalice or two women looking at each other all in one image. The fist time around you cannot help but seeing only one Gestalt. But then as somebody explains the other version to you, you can with time and experience actually perceive both images at the same time. Perhaps this is the fate of the Christian healer as well. You can perceive the opponent as well as the soul brother at the same time, but then when you make up your mind about the outcome, the person of your choice appears whole-hearted.
