As far as I can tell, I have been spiritually promoted a couple of times along my spiritual path. In both cases a message from my Tao arrived, "Bravo, you have reached a new level and this is your new mission statement." I increasingly believe that no matter what your spiritual evolution is, there is always a new opportunity to deliver on yet a higher spiritual plane.
The word renunciation is misunderstood in my opinion. It shouldn't imply giving something up against your conscious or subconscious will, it should imply growing out of instead. The time when you naturally drop something is the day when you understand why you are doing it. Turning your head in the new direction is hard work, but it is also a lot of fun because a new world is waiting for you. Until the day when you really understand why, do not drop anything because all you will do is to accumulate frustration in the process. And don't worry, the Tao works endlessly to get you to this point of understanding.
