You may remember the scene in Rocky III, when Rocky Balboa got terribly beaten up by Clubber Lang to a point when he didn't even bother to raise his arms anymore to protect himself. Still, he suddenly shouts at his coach Apollo Greed "Don't worry, I know what I am doing. He is getting tired."
I still remember the laughter in the movie theater at this scene. The whole thing just sounded absurd. But it may have been a laughter of embarrassment as well. Perhaps deep down inside many were touched, but they felt too sheepish to admit it. Perhaps you have experienced a similar tipping point when independent of how bad a situation looked to others, you just felt suddenly a certainty that the battle is over. From here on it is only about hard work and connecting the dots, but in your mind the final outcome has already been decided on.
I reached that tipping point this weekend when I reflected on my arm wrestling activities with my personal demon. It has been a long journey, but the struggle is over. Not because I am any stronger than he is, but because everything is now out in the open and there is just no longer anything to do anymore. Once you have decided that you have reached a new spiritual plane, your wish will be your command. The eye of the tiger baby - It's a nice feeling!
