The Power of Now

He was walking around his house thinking about the lousy real estate market. The refrigerator had leaked the other day and damaged the hardwood floor in the kitchen and living area. It would take a lot of money to repair this damage and without this investment it would be impossible to sell the house. Just as he was about to embark on his favorite subject of how the in-laws would be using up his limited space again this summer he became aware of a noise. Its intensity grew and he realized it was the singing of a bird. Just as he looked up he saw how a cardinal was taking off and he was awe-struck by the amazing reflection of the morning sun in the cardinal's red feathers. Captured by the moment he just stood there for a few moments, but then the voice in his head reminded him of the income job-market report and how it will likely bad for equity markets and his wealth.

Living in the Now is not the highest union with God as some believe it is, but it the preceding stage: Heaven on earth. All it really is, a fusion with the Tao. You appreciate the beauty of creation moment by moment and you realize that you are One with everyone and everything. For the average person it is an invite to step out of the pressure cooker mind here and now, and if you manage to to it, you can be sure that another invite is just around the corner. If you feel really burdened by the voice in your head, go for a walk. Chances are the cardinal I just wrote about will be waiting for you.
