On Being Conscious

A young analyst strutted down the corridor, full of energy and perhaps full of herself too. When I observed her behavior, I was wondering whether I would notice it in myself if I was in her high-heels. Perhaps she knows about it, perhaps she is just proud of who she is right now. We cannot help being the people we are. In fact, we should always strive to be the people we are since otherwise we would just repress our desires and would be at a loss to understand the struggles of our subconscious. But being who we are, we can observe ourselves in our interactions with others; we can listen to our own voice as we speak and just feel our behavior and attitude vis-a-vis others. At this moment, we are actually able to step out of ourself and suddenly we can be aware of our entire being.
