They say we have a core deep inside ourselves, the Soul, Holy Ghost or True Self Who is in constant connection with God and Who you can communicate with you if you manage to have a still mind. This interaction between True Self and self can take four forms:
Insight: The you perceives a message from your soul connection and you are transformed
Ego trip: You realize that the force that opposes God is at work inside of you
Impostor: You think the Soul is making you act, but it is still your ego at work
Dharma: You resist doing something because it seems to conflict with your notion of God only to find that it is your mission to do the job
