Most spiritual path travelers have a shadow just because we aspire to be someone holy which means that there is a part of us that rebels and says 'Hey, what about me?' It is ok to conjecture who you might be, but similarly, don't be surprised if a demon pops up at the same time to remind you of your earthly roots. All this implies is that you have to try again differently; my hunch is that you will have have a chance to express who you aspire to be without cutting off your earthly roots.
They say that the werewolves come out on full moon. It is true, our systems are very sensitive to lunar fluctuations as we are to solar storms. More than that, our dark side can pick up if there is trouble in the air. You are truly psychic; your system anticipates events that lie in the future and when you consider them negative your demon will have added strength.
You also emit energy vibrations. When they are peaceful, your environment gels with you; when they are stressful, your environment will reflect these tensions right back to you. When your shadow is out howling, even if you manage to hide this fact from others, your negative energy vibration will cause trouble in your nearby environment. So what will you do with these insights? Will you say, 'Oh no, I better lock myself up next full moon?' Or perhaps, 'I will try harder to keep my shadow at bay next time given that I do not want to inconvenience the ones who are dear and near to me.' Well you can try, but then, the tension will still be there, so one way or another you will still be a nuisance to other unless and until you resolve your personality split once and for all.
My philosophy is that there is always an outlet for all your tensions. Turn the table around, accept your shadow as a great source of energy that needs to be channelled in a new direction to make it productive rather than destructive. Your shadow and what you do with it will define you as a person. Which constraints are binding and which rules are meant to be broken? Only you can make this decision. Life is optimal in the sense that it is your constraints and experienced tensions make you the person you were born to be. Accept life's little challenge and find a way to embrace your shadow.
