There are three separate paths back to our Source: the path of love or devotion, the path of energy and the path of wisdom. The path of love is essentially what all religions are teaching. You surrender yourself to the Christ, Mohamed, Buddha, a guru, or whatever other faith it is that you are embracing. The love you feel for your deity sets you free of all the psychological baggage you still carry around. The path of energy is what many yoga disciplines are advocating. You strengthen the internal flow of prana until you manage to have it circulate up your spine into your forehead and inspiration finds you that way. The path of wisdom (jnana) is the yoga of the mind. For some this discipline appears odd; you can't think yourself into Heaven the Buddha says and he is right. So what exactly is wisdom yoga?
Think of wisdom yoga as your intuition. When a eureka moment happens, a light bulb goes off in your head. So yes, it is true that thinking about a problem statement started the process, but the solution is provided by a force that is way more powerful than the mind. In fact, MRI studies show that there is activity in the brain ahead of the moment when the solution of the problem becomes apparent to the thinker. The system already knows the answer and finds a way to communicate it when the light bulb goes off. Perhaps intuition can best be explained by Edi Brickell and New Bohemians' 'What I Am' song: 'I know what I know if you know what I mean'.
Wisdom yoga can be summarized as the 'not this, not that' path. You reflect on your choices and as the insight penetrate you. you let go of the stuff you no longer identify with. As you bare the 'I' from all the psychological baggage, the true self emerges. There is actually little difference in that process to the Tao traveler who makes spur of the moment decisions as life presents itself and feels herself along the path. On the way towards wholeness, mind, heart and energy all unify.
