There was once a big flood in a small American city and the water level of the near-by river rose precariously. Everyone in the city had to be vacated. A religious man was sitting on his porch when a policy car came by informing him that everyone had to leave the city now, but he replied 'Do not worry about me, the dear Lord will take good care of me.' A couple of hours later the water level had reached his house and was rising at an alarming rate. The man looked out of the window of the first floor when a man on a boat came by and shouted 'Jump on board, we have to leave'. The man again replied 'Do not worry about me, the good Lord will take care of me. One hour later the man was already sitting on his roof and the water level was still rising when a helicopter came by and the rescue workers screamed 'Take the robe, we have to leave now', but the man shouted back 'Don't worry about me, the dear Lord will take care of me'. Unfortunately the man drowned and when he encountered God he asked 'What happened, I waited for your help and you didn't do anything.' Said the Lord, 'I sure did, I first send you a police car, then a boat and then even a helicopter.'
The point is that life is designed to interact with you moment by moment to help you on your journey home. Every problem you have, every challenge as well as every blessed encounter with someone dear to you is there to help you define yourself. If you look for holy moments in books or at church you may certainly find them, but you can find them as much in all your day to day interactions. When you wait for Godot you may just hear your ego talking wrapped in spiritual clothes. If you embrace life and all it's challenges with all your being you are on your way home. It is a simple as that.
