I remember a time several years ago
when I felt disconnected with people at work and I used affirmations to change
course. Every day I would write OMC on my note book, which was a shorthand for
'one meaningful conversation' at a time. And I also remember writing a blog note
six months later complaining that nothing really had changed. I was wrong, the
affirmations did bring a change in me and my interactions with others. It was
just that the wheels were turning more slowly than I could perceive. Today, I
view pretty much all interactions that come my way as meaningful in one way or
another. All interactions give me energy whereas before some people were sucking
the energy right out of me.
A few days ago, I took a Meyers-Briggs
personality test and the two areas of change compared to the time when I took
the test 10 years ago are people related. I am now a moderate extrovert whereas
I was classified as introverted when I took the test last time. I also now take
much more interest in people, whereas before I was thinking dominated. That is
what the Tao has taught me over the years, 'you might be introverted and
thought-driven, but when I send people your way, understand that they are
presents to be treasured'. So yes, my affirmations have worked because they
overlap with my spiritual mission statement. Affirmations will work if they
move into the direction that give your life purpose. Affirmations are simply a
daily reminder to reposition yourself in the direction that is meaningful to
you. The wheels are turning slowly because you face some internal resistance or
limiting beliefs. Give the wheels time to turn; everything is going your
way.
