This month is Autism Awareness Month. For a while now, Autism has influenced more and more families world-wide. Despite a lot of research, doctors and psychologist still can't really determine what causes this mysterious disability in children. But as more and more affected children learn to communicate with us either in writing or speech, we become more aware of the inner world of these isolated children. Many have reported that their bodies are out of their own control, yet they claim that they have quite a good idea and sense of what is going on in their personal world.
We have heard of many success stories, parents who somehow bring back their autistic child to a more normal life with the strength of their love. While all parents have to go through a period of frustration, helplessness and self-pity, some are somehow able to help their child to snap out of it. Many of them apply the"one step at a time" method. Instead of getting dragged brown by the apparent insurmountable disability, they focus on what they can do at this particular moment. It is also the foundation of the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). It breaks down the skill they want to teach to the autistic kids to many sub-skills; step by step, they also observe the children in detail. With the help of this approach many kids have been brought back to our world after several years of intensive ABA teaching.
The reader of this blog knows, the one step at a time approach happens to be our spiritual mantra as well. Everything starts with your intention to get a particular outcome, but it's implementation can only be grasped one step at a time. Start a new business, work on a more healthy lifestyle, or buy a house. Everything can only be tackled with ease and peace of mind when you embrace the one step at a time method. On the other hand, when you try to scheme your way to the result you will find yourself as disconnected from what is as an autistic kid thrown into an unfamiliar environment. One step at a time while always be aware of your overarching purpose and She will lead you to your desired outcome in a way that is beyond your comprehension.
When there is a will, there will be a way. The Tao is always eager to help us out. But first you have to believe in your purpose and your possibilities. As the Tao Te Ching puts it, " the giant pine tree grows from a tiny sprout" and "the journey of a thousand miles starts beneath from your feet". Trust yourself, trust the Tao and you can make your dream come true.
