With or Without You (Continued)

See the stone set in your eyes.
See the thorn twist in your side.
I'll wait for you.
Sleight of hand and twist of fate.
On a bed of nails she makes me wait.
And I wait without you.
(U2, With or without you)

In a Friends episode, Monica started a relationship with someone who always seemed so upbeat. After a few weeks though, she and her friends realized the reason; he was in a perpetual state of drunkenness. Monica asked him to sober up, which he did, only to find that he was excruciatingly boring without alcohol so she had little choice but to dump him.

"With or without you" is borrowed from the U2 hit which rings true for anyone who is battling darkness on a spiritual path. Keep this force at bay and you feel dissatisfied; engage and realize that your peace is gone. There is only one way out of the dilemma, channel that frustration into an entirely new direction. As you leave the dead-end street behind, you give both angel and devil on your shoulder something new to cheer on.
