We are GOD’s Hands (Revised)

And I am never broken.
We are never broken.
We are GOD's eyes,
GOD's hands,
GOD's mind,
We are GOD's hands.
(Hands, Jewel; my capitalizations)

The purpose of spirituality can't be to drift. Sure, some of us have the mission to become monks, but many of us spiritual travelers—fooled by the the siren calls of spirituality—simply run away from our subconscious fears and suppressed desires. When the real world is too ugly to look at, chances are there is still an issue inside of us that we haven't quite tackled yet. Life is here to help us understand who we really are inside. Life is the best life coach there is. Dive in and solve life’s many problems! Help the world if you can, but most importantly, find who you truly are beneath all the conditioning and ego cravings. Life will gladly take the blinders off for you if you have the stamina to face all the challenges and opportunities at hand with an open mind.

Some spiritual travelers mind the competition, the greed, and the carelessness in the world and they are certainly onto something. Yet, there is arrogance in this view of the world as well. Do not judge your brother before you have jumped into the same trench with him and seen how you would act in the line of fire. The salvation for the ruthless businessman, the driven lawyer, or the straying husband is life itself. Yes, all of us who are driven by our passions are probably blind-sighted, but life lets us know what we are missing out on. The crying of the little girl who misses her straying dad; the pain in the eye of the lawyer's assistant who has to work overtime yet again and routinely gets headaches over it; the hint of a business partner to find a spiritual compromise rather than going after another ruthless business deal.

‘We are GOD's hands’, as Jewel puts it so well in her song. If you consider yourself a light-worker, jump into life’s messiness, do your job and get your hands a little dirty. Don't worry about the motivations some others may or may not have. GOD gives us this job for a reason and something beautiful will come of it. After I posted this note in a spiritual community, one member shared this comment:

Each has a part
to play
in the
HEALING
of the world.
(davidWELLENS, HEALING)

How true! The horny cheater, the driven lawyer, the crying little girl, the abused assistant, the light worker and the greedy business man; everyone is performing an act in a divine play. Hard as it is to remember sometimes, we are One. No one is entirely evil, and no-one is entirely self-less. We all simply are, part of Oneness, and driven by forces that life helps us awaken to. In the divine act we learn, we understand, we forgive and we transcend. Mostly, we are GOD's hands.
