Get Up, Stand Up

Most people think,
Great God will come from the skies
Take away everything
And make everybody feel high
But if you know what life is worth
You will look for yours on earth
And now you see the light
You stand up for your rights. Jah!
(Bob Marley, Get Up Stand Up)

There was a passionate note the other day in our Light-worker community that it is getting time to do something against all the growing imbalances in the world. I took it as another ‘us versus them’ conflict-ridden message, ‘the spiritual travelers versus religious believers’, ‘the revolutionaries versus capitalists’, ‘the environmentalists versus ruthless corporations’, etc. So I responded, that the ‘Revolution’ has to happen within, that is the only way to revolutionize the world.

This morning I had second thoughts, probably inspired by the ‘Mary Poppins’ performance at our sons’ school yesterday. Sure, we are all light-workers and can only get anywhere if we show up and share our GOD-given talents wherever we can. The few monks meditating in the mountains of Nepal are the exception, not the rule. Most of us first have a job to do here and now in order to graduate to the next spiritual level. As the motto on King Arthur’s round-table reads, ‘By serving each other we become free!’

So Get Up, Stand Up and do whatever you feel born to do. Don’t do shadow boxing with some imagined dark forces though; just get your job done; leave your legacy behind, in the profession of your calling, or in the community you live in, and then move on to something bigger and better. SELF discovery is about letting go, not about falling in love with our importance. GOD is practical, however, as long as we still have bees under our bonnet, we may as well do something useful with it on our journey HOME.
