The circle encompassing yin and yang stands for Oneness. While the symbol of the Tao is associated with duality, the meaning of it is in fact all about the transcendence of life’s intrinsic tensions and contradictions. The Tao Te Ching talks about the Master who rests at the center of the circle watching the world spin to describe this unitive experience.
The Course in Miracles maintains that the Holy Spirit will patiently explain the symbols of duality to us until we see Oneness prevailing as well. From that perspective, the path of Christ leads to the same unitive outcome, Love and Peace overcome the tensions and contradictions of life, and Faith leads us right into the arms of God.
The paths of the east and the west both point towards Oneness, yet, the starting points couldn’t be any further apart. The approaches remind of the distinction between a God without and with form. The Tao Te Ching is for the scientists and artists among us who manage to ‘see’ the unitive experience; the path of the Christ is for those who have Faith.
Someone once asked me, why would anyone ever go the arduous road of searching for a God without form when we can ask Jesus to forgive all our sins instantaneously. Yes, what a concept! Follow it if you have this Faith. For the spiritual scientists and artists among us, know that this unitive experience is accessible by everyone!
