The reality of enlightenment is being.
(Jay Scott Berry)
Alan Watts once said ‘The biggest ego trip is getting rid of your ego, and of course the joke of it all is that your ego does not exist.’ What an astute observation! When we seek enlightenment, we may in fact always run after an empty concept just as the donkey continually reaches for the carrot dangling in front. Yet, when we fall in love with life as is we may just be as enlightened as they come. The thoughts cease as we zoom into the person we love, the mission we embark on, or as we meet God’s many messengers.
It is not wrong to aspire at all. This world was created for us to experience abundance. What is spiritually problematic is to get caught up in the desire to be somewhere else instead and to make the person, the activity or the situation we are in as the means to an end rather then being in love with the moment at hand. There is a prevailing life-Force that we have always access to. When we do, the ego is fulfilled and can’t get the better of us. Fall in love with the life-Force, be one with It and you are Home already!
