On Knowing

Nothing in the world can bother you as much as your own mind, I tell you. In fact, others seem to be bothering you but it is not others, it is your own mind.
Sri Ravi Shankar

Knowing is a feeling, an understanding. When we know, thoughts literally become an afterthought. Logic still prevails, but it is of God. It is simple, powerful and beautiful. I realized this distinction between knowing and the mind when the kundalini energy reached a threshold level in the neck area. The heart takes over the reigns and the mind embraces what is.

When the sages say, ‘be still’, or ‘you are not your thoughts’, that doesn’t mean that we need to spend the entire day in meditation in order to be with God. It means that we shouldn’t allow our mind to rule our life. God couldn’t have picked a better messenger of this gospel since I spent my entire life controlled by my mind and have only recently awoken from the slumber.

You may ask, “how do I get to this blessed stage if I am a mind-centered person?” Well, monitor the activities of the mind. Realize the feelings it generates, and vice versa, discover how the mind reacts when feelings bubble to the surface. Mind, heart and life are interdependent, trapped in God’s Maya and we have to try getting a glimpse of what lies Beyond. Get lost in the Now, breathe and meditate.

I may not know all the time but I know when the mind takes over and when it is time to center myself once again. Believe me, if I can reach this stage, so can you.
