Let the Self stream in

We will all make
the journey
f r o m

s e l f ish
to s e l f less
to S E L F FULL.
(David Wellens, SELF)

When Freud coined the psychological term ‘ego’, he took the Latin word ‘I’ and used it as an expression for everything that we are conscious of. In today’s language, especially in our spiritual community, ego stands for selfish. We say, ‘he is full of ego’ and imply, that he is full of it. We define ego as what stands between us and God.

Selfless is an interesting word. It has a ‘Mother Theresa’ aspect to it. We are somehow more concerned with the welfare of others than our own. So ‘selfless’ not the cessation of self that some of us have experienced. David Wellens coined the expression SELF FULL to describe how the Beyond fills us up when the self ceases to exist.

Maybe that’s as good a term as there ever will be to describe the cessation of self. SELF FULL as in

S erenity,
E mpowerment,
L ove, and
F usion (with what lies Beyond).

As we become empty, as thoughts become still and feelings drift by as clouds in the wind, a beautiful Presence fills us up. Let the SELF stream in.
