Bio Robots

It’s not hard to recognize ‘unconscious’ behavior in others, and it’s not hard to spot it in ourselves. Unconscious behavior is like a treadmill, once we are on it we know that the train has left the station and life and our reaction functions are pretty much on auto-pilot.

Spiritual living is the opposite; it’s a falling in love with what is. Decision points are not perceived as agonizing but as a benevolent curiosity that we can’t wait to see unfolding. Few, however, can live conscious all the time. Occasionally, we are all just bio robots.

Unconscious living is an invite to take a closer look, a fear we fail to stand up to, a craving we cannot shake, a pain body that gets activated by certain situations. ACIM writes, ‘be never fearful of temptation, but see it as another chance to choose again.’

I would put Gurdjieff’s insight a little different. Every moment is either an opportunity to participate in the magnificence of life, or an invite to heal. Next time when you are triggered or tempted, just observe and use the opportunity to heal from it.
