The Grand Old Duke of York’s has figured it out

Oh, the grand old Duke of York,

he had ten thousand men,

he marched them up to the top of the hill,

and he marched them down again

And when they were up, they were up.

And when they were down, they were down.

And when they were only half-way up,

they were neither up nor down.

The realization of what lies beyond the ‘I’

can happen at the height of success,

but also in times of misery,

as much as in any mundane moment.

Don’t shy from success, but don’t bathe in it,

don’t equate scarcity with spirituality either.

We can leave our ‘I’ behind anytime.

Here and now, we can drop the self.
