Beyond self-control and letting your self go

But the man who is self-controlled,
who meets the objects of the senses
with neither craving nor aversion,
will attain serenity at last.
Bhagavad Gita

Self-control doesn’t do it, but the intent of becoming a ‘better me’ can set in motion a process that encourages us to remove layers of conditioning around our being. Vice versa, letting go of all control and giving in to our passions and cravings may not be very spiritual, but it may generate the understanding that there is an essence beyond our cravings and aversions that makes us way more fulfilled and happy than our passions ever could.

It doesn’t matter what we do, or what we are intent on getting, life has a habit of confronting us with the shallowness of our desires and fears. Life is designed to set us free, and even gives us free will to stumble on what what we truly want in the end. The scriptures advocate the loving and selfless path to getting to the realization, but the scripture called life is beyond good and bad, virtue and vice. The Beyond is the biggest chess master ever designed, anticipating our every move.

SELF is patiently waiting for you to leave the self behind. Serenity, Empowerment, Love and Fusion (with the Beyond) are your birthright. Like the Story of the Prodigal Son, find the guts to drop the ‘you’ and return Home. SELF is always nearby. Somewhere beyond self-control and letting your self go, slip out of your self and claim SELF.
