Our mind is the root cause of our suffering. We all create issues, for example guilt. That guilt is created by us, it’s because our mind thinks it is wrong to do that, so you create a feeling of guilt.
After we created a feeling of guilt, and then we create : “beg to be forgiven”. We somehow think the guilt will go away that way. Don’t we all think like that?
Suzhen: “So what's next?”
Student: “Conflicts and struggling.”
Suzhen: “Then what should we do?”
Student: “Get back to that ‘thinking’.”
Suzhen: “What kind of person creates the guilt?”
Student: “A perfectionist; a person who likes to be perfect.”
Suzhen: “Very good. Keep going. Then who creates this person who wants to be perfect? What kind of person wants to be perfect?”
Student: “A person who doesn’t allow himself to make mistakes creates a perfectionism.”
Suzhen: “Very good! Then what kind of person wouldn't allow himself to make a mistake?”
Student: “A person who suffers from mistakes, or a person who has been punished because of mistakes; then he won’t allow himself to make mistakes again.
Suzhen: “He is punished. So a person who is punished won’t allow himself to make mistakes. That person who was punished and suffered is created by whom? How do we create this person? Don’t think. Just respond directly. How do we create this experience of being punished?”
Student: “Who created this person to be punished?”
Suzhen: “Yes! We discovered it one by one. By now, it is a person who is punished and created a person who doesn’t allow mistakes. Please go forward.”
Student: “He doesn’t accept the old pain.”
Suzhen: “He resisted this pain. Good! Keep going! Who is resistant to this pain? Who is resistant to this experience of being punished? Because he is punished so he is resistant to this experience? Who created this person who is resistant to making mistakes? What kind of person is he? And how do you create this person?”
Student: “A person who did admit that he made a mistake, hahaha!”
Suzhen: He didn’t admit that he made a mistake, he didn’t think he was wrong, let’s stop here. So it turns out it is someone who doesn’t admit that he made a mistake, and he created the guilt we just mentioned, and asked to be forgiven, can you see that? All this is just ridiculous! So all this our minds playing with ourselves. That’s all. Can you see that?
So this is some kind of observation. During this inquiry process, you can discover your thinking pattern. Once you can see that, it cannot hide anymore. Before you could hide, but now you cannot hide anymore. And then you can see your thinking pattern clearly.
