When we treat love as a mutual beneficially trade and implicitly presume, “I treat you like this, so you should love me”, or, “I give you this, you need to give me that”, or perhaps,”You are like this, so I should be like that”, we only care about getting what we want. This kind of attitude limits our learning. It’s like love is like the whole universe, but we only use a scoop to fill it in.
We treat love as so tiny and shallow so that we cannot lead a happy life. When we start to learn, we will understand that love is not like that. It’s actually very wonderful and divine. It’s a state of being. It’s not a behavior; you cannot claim that you are in love by doing anything. When you can understand the pain in your heart, love will arise in you. At this time, love is eternal.
