Be still and know ‘I Am That I Am’

There is no self identity in time, though we are somehow wired to perceive ourself that way. There is an angry ‘me’ and a loving one. There is a greedy ‘me’ and a compassionate one. Each activated and triggered by the environment that we are in. Moment by moment we change our face, but are somehow convinced that this identity that we have never changes.

We follow teachers, reflect, meditate, read books, watch videos and hope that this year we will be more loving, more understanding, more compassionate. Why should we? If we didn’t manage last year, what should make this year better? We even have an expression for the quest that we are on, self improvement. Who knows, maybe one day we will be enlightened altogether.

Moment by moment the opportunity arises to leave behind the doer, the story teller, the self that aspires to improve in time. Here and now we can watch the self at work and end it by simply not engaging. The here and now is an insight away and doesn’t require a teacher, merely awareness of what is. How to do it? It’s simple, be still and know ‘I Am That I Am’.
