End self by being SELF

The song “I want you to want me” describes the problem statement of love infatuation. It feels good to be wanted, yet this feeling has nothing to do with true love. The feeling is not about the other, it is solely about me.

If I say, “I must not engage in selfish love”, I must only be in true love relationships, I have added yet another ‘me’ element to the problem statement. If I say, “I must love the other as myself”, I only add to the misery.

Ironically, the group that sang “I want you to want me” in the early 80s is called Cheap Trick. Yet, knowing what turns ‘me’ on is at least one step closer to spirituality than overriding what I really want in the name of spirituality.

Don’t get me wrong though, knowing what turns me on does not mean that I have to act on it. I only act if this action truly betters my living position. Anyone who has run after romantic infatuation again and again knows how destructive that is.

True liberation from the “I” motivation comes when we can experience the heart-centered energy in action. The opening of the heart chakra overrides whatever conditioning of the ‘me, myself and I’ construct that existed before.

I used mistaken romantic love as an example, but clearly, the illusionary ‘me’ identity is everywhere. What is real is SELF: S (tillness) of mind, the opening of the E (nergy) pathways, true L (ove) and the natural F (low) of life. End self by being SELF!
