What we call ego has an energy attached to it. It is foreign to our essence and we can literally feel the impostor trying to wrap itself around us. Actually, the expression ‘ego’ is often associated with all the negative aspects of our self identification that is in conflict with love and the higher energies, yet the word ego is simply I in Latin. Everything we identify with, the good and the bad, is in the way of allowing the higher energies flow through us.
Spiritual teachers often focus on thought, and claim that the highest state is a serene silence, an absence of an inner voice. While this is correct it is not a very useful method for uniting with this state. When the thought hits it is already too late. Some inner foreign energy activated it and our thought merely communicates its presence to us. Mindfulness is being able to observe the foreign energy in body, mind and world. Mastery is letting go of it.
Everyone can experience the ‘I Am That I Am’ state. Grace surrounds us. No teacher is required to help us recognize the sun’s brilliant light. Where we need help is recognizing and letting go off the foreign energy that prevents us from seeing the light. When we zoom into the good, the bad and the ugly, it is unfortunately already too late, because the higher energies are beyond good and evil, but we can become sharper in spotting the interference.
