Do the inner work now!

Maybe there is reincarnation—a gradual evolution of our soul. After all, I have friends who credibly remember past-time episodes, and they are getting lighter as they put the pain of the past away. Yet, hoping that the break-through will happen in a later life as supposedly currently the wounds are too deep, the guilt too heavy, and the age is too advanced to break free is clearly the self talking. Our linear mind loves gradual self improvement so that we put ourselves into a trance running after a Fata Morgana that we will never reach.

The first break with the mind generated enlightenment story that argues that we better sit at the feet of the master so that after years of diligent work we also get a seat at the table is the realization that the Light always shines through. We may occasionally block the vision with our self-imposed fancies but when we experience the Light it shines as brightly for us as for anyone. So, the reminder is that we already are of the Light, we just have to be mindful to get our self out of the Way.

For me the breakthrough happened when it became clear to me that the way to the Light is through the self. The higher energies make themselves known the moment the mind becomes still, and our heart and eyes become wide open. As the 13th century monk Meister Eckhart put it, “God is like a person who clears His throat while hiding.” So all we have to do is to be still and listen. Everyone can do that. I have been blessed to experience these higher energies—as countless others—since my Awakening in 2008.

The question remains how do we get our self out of the Way when the conditions of the past, the energies of the culture we are imbedded in, and the ghosts of prior generations block the incoming Light. Naturally we are all so different so we need to find our idiosyncratic ways of dealing with the interferences. For me it’s self introspection. What is the sponsoring thought behind what I am thinking, feeling and experiencing? Alert, aware, and of equanimous mind in every situation, and if not, explore why!
