Can we work towards God?

 Spiritual paradox:

Working towards God is impossible.

Yet “working towards God” is what it takes

to break free from the “me, myself and I” energy.

What does it mean, “working towards God is impossible”? Every method we propose to break free from our illusionary self-identification is tainted, for the desire to have no desire is also a desire. Some watch their thoughts, but the question arises, who is the one doing the watching? Some look for oneness in the duality, some aspire to love their neighbors as themselves, some want to see the world through God’s eternal eyes, and some appeal to God and the perceived avatars (Jesus, Buddha, Mohamed, Krishna, etc.) directly. Yet every striving is not That, so what to do?

What does it mean to “work towards God” and manage to break free from the “me, myself and I” energy even though we just stayed the opposite? We can be watchful when we are striving to be spiritual. We can see God when we are still thanks to the conscious letting go. As the saying goes, what we are looking for is looking for us, therefore no heartfelt spiritual work will go unrewarded. The intersection of the higher and lower energies has its confusing moments, but when in doubt remember that having an open mind, open eyes and an open heart has all the answers.
