Be alert, be open and be mindful!

I am thinking of a friend and at that very moment the friend texts me. Does that mean that I have special powers? No, it just means that that what I once perceived as a separate entity interacting with the rest of the world is embedded in something much bigger. Many people can’t perceive these phenomena because they are too busy running after their idiosyncratic longings or running away from their aversions. In all that self-centered activity it is hard to perceive that wholeness is with or without the self perceiving itself as a separate identity.

J. Krishnamurti defined real and truth in the following way. The tree we see in front of us is real. It’s also true unless we distort its reality with some mind-made concepts. A thought is real in that it has a chemical cause and effect and may or may not amount to something in the real world as well. It may not be true though. Let’s say that I convince myself every morning that the joyful “hallo” of my colleague means she is interested in me. Yet, when I finally summon the willpower to ask her for dinner she declines and I realize my idle presumptions.

What we see, sense, think about or express may clash with life as is. It’s a real existence all right but it’s not truthful and life will keep clashing with us. How much nicer then if we open up to the flow of life by seeing, sensing, and exploring and expressing what is. The man could have mustered his willpower a bit earlier and could have saved himself a lot of ruminating. Life invites us to be whole. Be alert, be open and be mindful and Oneness calls the shots, and if you feel resistance in either thought or action, ask who is standing in the Way.
