Leave liberation alone.
Is there bondage? Know this.
See yourself first and foremost.
(Ramana Maharshi)
Some of you may remember Anderson’s story of the Snow Queen in which a little boy was hurt by an evil mirror which shattered into million pieces and one splinter got into his eye and another in his heart so that his ability to see beauty and feel love was disabled. Instead, he perceived ugliness and hate. In the story the little neighbor’s girl left no stone untouched until he finally tracked him down in the palace of the Snow Queen. The little girl’s embrace melted the splinter in his heart and his consequent tears washed away the splinter in his eye, so that they both could live happily ever after.
The story is quite a good representation of humanity’s fall, but the evil mirror is really the imprint for our past memories, the ambitions and the aversions of the society we live in and our parents, ancestors, as well as the neurological tracks we imprinted in our brains by going down the same tracks over and over in our eventful life. Again, just like in the Snow Queen story, life is there to bring us back to our innocence by showing us the consequences our conditioned actions have, and by opening up a window to a complete new world if only we leave our mind-driven path behind.
