Between stimulus and response there is a space.
In that space is our power to choose our response.
In our response lies our growth and our freedom.
Viktor Frankl
They say, respond to events; don’t merely react instinctively.
In Awareness, there is no conditioned entity around to react.
Can Viktor Frankl’s “space” be so potent to end the chooser?
Is it in our power to become so still that we are free? This is what Metameza Ushi shared in response:
In many spiritual traditions, particularly Advaita Vedanta and non-dual teachings, there's an emphasis on realizing our true nature as pure awareness.
This realization points beyond the conditioned identity of the mind, body, and personality. It invites us to recognize that beneath the constant stream of thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations, there exists a spacious, unchanging presence; Awareness itself.
Teachers like Ramana Maharshi expressed this directly. He often guided seekers to inquire, “Who am I?” not to reach a conceptual answer, but to experientially recognize the ever-present awareness in which all experiences arise. In this state, one sees clearly: I am not the body, I am not the mind, I am the Consciousness in which these appear and dissolve.
