When we encounter troubles in relationships, most people tend to think the problem lies with the other, but with that mindset true learning cannot begin and suffering will only continue.
If everything is someone else’s fault, then why are you the one in pain? That suffering is yours—it arises within you. Understanding your own suffering is the real starting point.
You may ask yourself: “If it’s really all someone else’s problem, why do I need to suffer?” We are often too caught up in the story, like being absorbed in a TV drama, forgetting that there is a screenwriter behind it all.
When we’re lost in the story, we can’t see the one who writes it—the screenwriter who shapes every joy and sorrow. So, we keep trying to make the story go our way, to bend every scene toward our desires, but the real focus should not be the story itself—it should be on the screenwriter!
Our practice is to become the one who can see the screenwriter—the awareness, the observer—not the character lost in the unfolding drama.
