The Beauty of Weakness

We all want to look good, want to be strong and happy. So at times when something is off we are disappointed. Actually, most of the times we can't even admit to ourselves that we are, so we build an armor around us and pretend that we are doing just fine.

Is it possible to experience whatever we go through without having an opinion about it? Observe yourself, whenever you are doing well, you naturally share with the world how you feel. Yet, when you experience something not so great, say failure, weakness, sickness, depression, a dark desire or a perceived short-coming, you try to hide it from the rest of the world. Often we also attack ourselves or others over it. That's what our ego does. The question is, can we step away from all that?

Can we just experience whatever it is, without labeling it and without giving the voice in our head the power to put us in a tailspin over it? Sure it is natural that we feel happy when things are going well, and sad and grumpy when things are not going so well. Just let your emotions flow as they are and observe them. See how your negative emotions actually help your connect with others if you dare to show your weakness and vulnerability.  In this exposure, you tear down the walls and let others walk inside.  You give others an opportunity to show their sympathy and compassion. You understand that we all have a similar fate and that we are all equal. By opening up to others and letting them into your world you also realize that the rantings of the voice in your head are just that. Over and over the Tao will show you how different the reactions of others can be compared to your mental projections.

Observe too how you are likely to build a wall around you when you feel that you have a natural advantage over others. Say you are born in a rich, influential family, or look stunning or are exceptionally gifted at something. How easy is it to look down on others and feel sorry for them. Life is here to teach us that you are special, but so is everyone else. Open up to all facets of your life and it is plain to see. Accept all presents the Way delivers to you and open up to all your emotions. Soon you will see the beauty in everything.
