Holy Sh$t

I am a bit anal when it comes to the less appealing part of the digestion phase. Believe it or not, but I always take a shower after conducting this dirty business. It gives me trouble even writing about it. I am judging myself for giving away so much private information but I think that may be helpful for you as you struggle with the ‘Dark Night of the Soul’. Isn’t it the most normal function of the biological process to extract all the nutrients from the food we consume and dispose of the remnants? In the same fashion, why do we get so judgmental of the ‘Dark Night of the Soul’ episode. It’s exactly the same thing. It’s the culmination of all the little insults we allowed to our soul to suffer day in, day out. So one day all these hurts, these judgements and condemnations come out  in one violent explosion just as a volcano or an earthquake has to get rid of all the tension that had accumulated. It’s already enough that we suffer that hurt, but why should we beat ourselves up over it?

The ‘Dark Night of the Soul’ can be all kind of maladies, depression, rage, sickness, addiction, or whatever form it takes for our pain body to make its presence felt. Just as it makes no sense to judge the dirty remnants of the digestion process we shouldn’t judge our emotional trip to the dark side either. Our demon is the voice that reminds us that something is not right and that something needs healing. Instead of judging the outburst, make a change in your regular life instead. Don’t try harder, be smarter. Maybe you can scrap a little of your presumed holiness and become a little bit more authentic. Maybe your demon wants you to live better. You want to be kind and helpful to everyone but the demon reminds you to love yourself as well. Maybe you try less hard to appear serene and enlightened, and use life’s trials and tribulations to let off some steam. Stop judging the demon and start listening to what he wants. Soon the ‘Dark Night of the Soul’ will be a distant memory.
