The duties performed with the expectations of results, will attach us. These types of duties will not free us. Since we will be concentrating on the results, we will not be performing our duties with efficiency. The duties performed without any expectations of results, are offerings to God. These duties will release us from attachments. Once detached, one will be ready to inquire, "Who am I?" and be one with the Soul. Ramana Maharshi
I always took the mandate of the Bhagavad Gita to focus on the job that needs to be done without eyeing our rewards as a mandate for selflessness. Well it is, but not in a normative sense, but in the literal one: is the absence of self while life flows through us. The job at hand is the karmic here and now that allows us to let go of self. Don’t focus on the job that needs to get done, that’s still a mind concept. Life tells you what to do. Focus on the spontaneity to dance with life here and now. That’s freedom of self.
