I saw a video on the double slit experiment and the speaker promised that anyone having a good explanation for the role of the observer in it would get a Nobel price guaranteed. Well, it might well be a spiritual one!
If the light hits a double slit in the wall, a wavelike pattern emerges. If we shoot single atoms through the two slits they behave like they were part of a wave, not two bimodal piles of atoms on the other side. Now here comes the amazing part, once we spy on the atom and see where it goes the result changes and we get a bi-modal outcome. The existence of the observer changes the outcome!
I was reminded of enlightenment—the cessation of self. It’s a sudden shift in vision that gives us the perspective that we are not the actor in a preset script. It’s a pivoting that allows us to stop running after stuff that isn’t even meaningful and quit running away from things that can’t touch us. It’s a mirror image of the double split experiment, by adding the observer we access the wave of outcomes and avoid duality.
So why does the observer in the double slit experiment reduce the outcome to a dual outcome? Perhaps the observer fails to grasp that he is the light and by checking on the how, reduces the wave of possible outcomes to a dual world of good and bad, big and small, upper and lower slit. Just as in the Bible, the woman who turned back even she was told not to was turned into a statue. Ask the magician the how and the magic stops.
This gets me to the Law of Attraction. Teachers and coaches are right to remind us that we are often put the blinders of mind and conditioning on and thus fail to attract the love we deserve, or the success that can be ours. But they also sometimes overpromise by getting you what ‘you’ want. No, the ultimate Law of Attraction is the cessation of self. That’s when duality stops and the spectrum of the wave appears.
Enlightenment is—we become part of the light—when every outcome along the spectrum of the wave is accepted as is. Let me give you an example. We might like to be the next Eckhart Tolle, well connected, with a big following, rich, but for every Eckhart there are numerous undiscovered saints. Enlightenment means we do not care either way. Any outcome of the wave is accepted. We happily go where God sends us.
