There are two life philosophies: the world of Ramana Maharshi that says that everything is predestined and is geared towards waking us up from deep sleep, and the Nike philosophy, “Just do it!”, do not sit there and wait for Godot, get up, aspire and achieve.
Do you want to be the guy who subscribes to the lack of free will perspective and get vindicated every time something bad happened (because it happened of no fault of ours) or the positive thinker who others project into as they make positive life changes?
I subscribe to a combination of both worlds which is essentially the life philosophy that everything may be pre-destined, but that sometimes we still have to work pretty hard for what was already pre-destined to happen. The benefit of this view is peace of mind.
When we meet I will tell you with conviction that everything that has happened was perfect in setting you up for this break-through opportunity (karmic fate), and that by joining our energies here now, this break-through is likely to happen (“just do it!”)
This has been my experience, friends who reached out with spiritual problems—more often than not—managed to break through to a higher level of spiritual consciousness. Not because I am so good but because they reached out when they were ready for it.
Be mindful of body, mind and world and their implicit interconnectedness. Surrender to life as is, just as much as develop the creative mindset to see the world beyond body, mind and (the self-perceived) world. Everything that happens is perfect here now.
