What’s wrong? The answer lies within.

There is no goal to be reached.

There is nothing to be attained.

You are the Self.

Ramana Maharshi

A friend posted this reply to the “empty consciousness” post I wrote the other day, “That state cannot be learned as it is already part of our inherent nature, there is nothing to be created, achieved or uncovered, as it is continuously present.” His response reminds me of Meister Eckhart’s quote as well, “God is at home. It is we who have gone out for a walk.”

Why do we try to advance on the spiritual quest when everything we ever wanted is already inside? Whenever something feels off, instead of trying to improve anything on the outside, all we have to do is to remind ourselves to look inside. Ask, “what’s wrong?” and the self-imposed interference shall appear. If the problem points to someone outside instead, remind yourself of the Rumi quote, “Everyone is God speaking, so why not be polite and listen!”

The answer to every irritation, disquiet and restlessness always lies within.
