"The identity is inherent in reality and never fades. But your identity is neither the transient personality, nor the karma-bound individuality. It is what remains when all self-identification is given up as false—pure Consciousness, the sense of being all there is, or could be. Consciousness is always pure. At all times, it remains the same. To know it as it is, is realization and timeless peace." Nisargadatta Maharaj
We carry the karma of the past like a second skin, and the personality that was imprinted on us by memory, ancestors, parents, society, and humanity as a whole, as a first. Yet, we have an ability to be aware of our karmic propensities as well as our personal identification with life as is. When we recognize the personality behind the karmic drive; when we recognize the beauty and the ugliness behind the clinging, longing and avoiding, that’s when we operate at the center of the karmic wheel watching it spin. That’s when thought, our personality identification and our karmic automation end. We are no longer leaning into the wind so to speak. We are finally standing on both feet.
